When First Lady Michele Obama asked American chefs to take a leadership role in helping youngsters understand how to eat healthy, Chef Brian was at the first of the line. Since 2010, he’s been promoting Chefs Move to Schools through hands-on classroom demonstrations, distribution of recipe cards to take home and events geared towards helping children learn where their food comes from. We’ve worked with over 150 classrooms to date.
Chef Brian weaves in information in his demonstrations that helps teach students across disciplines, adding some math, science, social studies and history into his presentations. He also involves the students in preparation of the recipe and provides everyone with a sample to taste. One of the most rewarding aspects of this outreach is when we receive a call from a shocked parent telling us their student came home asking for spaghetti squash for dinner!
