In October 2016, we were excited to spend a work day volunteering at Green Opportunities, a nonprofit organization located in Asheville, NC. Co-founded by our CEO Steve Frabitore, Green Opportunities’ mission is to “connect youth and adults from low-wealth neighborhoods to sustained employment opportunities that support families, improve community and environmental health.”
We spent the day cooking with the students of Green Opportunities’ Kitchen Ready program and cleaning up the Southside Community Garden. The Kitchen Ready program trains under-employed and unemployed individuals in the culinary arts, and the produce grown in the Southside Community Garden is used by both local residents and the Kitchen Ready program. From cutting down okra plants to prepping pot de crème, we learned firsthand how much this organization gives back to the local community. Watch to find out more!
